Choosing the ideal sunscreen according to your skin type
Choosing the ideal sunscreen according to your skin type
With rising temperatures and increased exposure to UV rays, it is crucial to choose a sunscreen suited to your skin type. Poor protection can lead to sunburn, premature skin aging, and an increased risk of skin cancer. The ANSM and HAS remind us that sunscreens must be chosen according to skin sensitivity and phototype [1][2].
Why adapt sunscreen to your skin type?
Not all skin has the same needs when it comes to UV rays:
- Light skin (phototypes I and II) burns easily: it requires a high SPF (50+), with reinforced protection against UVA [2].
- Dark or matte skin has more melanin, but remains sensitive to UVA: a minimum SPF 30 is recommended, with anti-aging filters [3].
- Oily skin should avoid greasy creams: light, non-comedogenic textures are preferable [4].
- Dry skin benefits from formulas enriched with moisturizing agents (glycerin, hyaluronic acid) [5].
- Sensitive or allergic skin should favor mineral filters (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) [6].
The essential criteria for a good sunscreen
According to the recommendations of the EMA and the HAS, a good sunscreen must absolutely offer:
- A suitable SPF index (at least 30, ideally 50+)
- Clearly indicated double UVB + UVA protection
- Water resistance if you are doing an outdoor activity
- A dermatologically tested formula, without recognized allergens
Which format should you choose depending on the use?
- Cream : ideal for dry areas of the face
- Spray : practical for the body and children
- Sun stick : perfect for the nose, lips and sensitive areas
Our recommendations are available on Pharma+ France
- SPF 50+ sunscreen for sensitive skin – mineral filter
- Waterproof SPF 50 sunscreen spray for the whole family
- Mattifying fluid SPF 50 for oily, acne-prone skin
